Marcus Martin

is a professional musical practitioner based in the West Sussex area. For over 50 years  he has been actively involved in many aspects of music performance and music education.  Marcus was born in Worthing and studied Piano,Organ and general music subjects at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama. After graduating he subsequently obtained an MA degree in Arts Management in Education at City university London. Professionally he has combined a career of teaching, accompanying, conducting, performing and music administration,  

For 30 years he taught musical studies at the East Sussex Academy of Music. Subsequently he held the postition of Music Course Organiser for the department of continuing education at West Dean College near Chichester.  Leading Music Holidays is another aspect of his work, including festivals, orchestral and choral holidays organised by HF holidays.

As accompanist he has appeared in many prestigious venues such as the South Bank complex, Royal Albert Hall, St John's Smith Square and the Edinburgh Festival.  Marcus  has also worked extensively in the musical theatre as musical director for amateur and professional productions .
For a long time Marcus has been associated with ‘Light Music’. His 35 piece professional Alassio Concert Orchestra, comprising musicians from the major London orchestras, provided an opportunity to hear the original orchestrations of some of the very best compositions of this genre. 
In 2012 he received an invitation to attend Jubilee The Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace. The citation for this honour was in respect of 25 years of services to Music and Charities in Worthing - through involvement with amateur and professional Choirs and Orchestras, work with young performers within the Worthing Music & Arts Festival - an organisation for whom he has been elected Life President - and in particular the raising of  over £55.000 for various local and National Charities during the past 17 years of presenting ‘Morning Melodies’.  
Currently  Marcus  directs a U3a Choir in Hassocks/Ditchling area, is accompanist for Worthing Choral Society,  and plays the organ at Keymer Parish Church and Hassocks URC. He is also in demand for Weddings and Funerals for other Churches in Sussex. Leading Music Holidays is another aspect of his work, including festivals, orchestral and choral holidays organised by HF holidays.
