Alan trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and began his career at the Connaught Theatre, Worthing, where he first worked with Marcus Martin in a production of ‘My Dear Gilbert’in 1969!
In London his extensive work at the National Theatre includes Stuff Happens, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, Jumpers, The Devil’s Disciple, The Birthday Party, Cleo Camping, Emmanuelle and Dick, Tis Pity She’s A Whore and Waiting For Godot. London theatre also includes a season at the Royal Court Theatre; the premiere production of Blood Brothers, with Barbara Dickson, at the Lyric Theatre; The Seagull at the Donmar Theatre; and A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Regent’s Park. Innumerable television appearances include Traitors, Waking The Dead, Holby City, The Bill, Silent Witness, Midsomer Murders, Eastenders, Prime Suspect, The Knock (as Colin McKenzie), London’s Burning, Henry VIII, Ripping Yarns, The Professionals, The Sweeney and Poldark. Films include: Memento Mori, Another Life, Spirit, Rough Cut and Who Dares Wins. He is married to Gwyneth Powell and they have lived in Hurstpierpoint for over 30 years.
Marcus studied Piano and Organ at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He has a particular affinity with Light Music and Music Theatre and is an experienced Musical Director for professional Pantomines, Summer Shows, Variety, Revue, Cabaret shows and stage musicals including the UK stage premiere of 'Gigi'.
He has composed original scores for 'The Water Babies' 'Peter Pan' and 'Hollywood Dreams'.
